Planning Board approves speed feedback sign for Page Street safety
Planning Board · Meeting of April 2, 2026
Avon Planning Board receives speed feedback sign for Page Street zone. Town Planner Richard Jordan briefed the board on the state's $1 million Municipal Speed Feedback Signage Program, under which Avon will receive a free, solar-powered portable device to manage speeds near Collins Circle, where speeds change. Research cited shows such signs reduce average speeds by 2 to 17 percent and lower collision severity by 23 to 45 percent.
Jordan also requested the board serve as an adviser for updating the five-year-old Housing Production Plan and outlined the Avon Center redesign strategy emerging from the Old Colony Planning Council's Route 28 Corridor Study, estimating improvements at roughly $20 million per 1 to 1.25 miles.
