Selectmen review FY2024 budgets in joint Finance workshop

Avon Selectmen and Finance Committee examine FY2024 spending at joint budget workshop. School Superintendent Christine Godino presented a $10.67 million town funding request against an $11.84 million operating budget, proposing four new positions including an Assistant Vice Principal at Avon Middle High School, a District Curriculum Coordinator, a Music Teacher, and an Instructional Assistant, citing enrollment growth and increasing English learner students. Fire Chief Robert Spurr flagged diesel fuel costs rising from $4 to $7 per gallon and proposed adding four full-time firefighters per shift.

Treasurer Deb Morin reported the town's largest debt obligations stem from police and fire station renovations and street rehabilitation.
