School Committee hears updates on athletics and special education

Avon School Committee convenes for routine meeting with informational updates from athletics and administration. Student advisors Gianna Rosa and Brynn Gaynor reported on initiatives at Butler Elementary and Avon Middle-High School; Butler's book fair earned over $3,000 in Scholastic Bucks for a new book vending machine. Athletic Director Mike Hayes presented Fall Sports All-Star MVPs, including Valencia Jean in volleyball, Kate Austrino and Emma MacDonald in girls soccer, and Jason Maguire in boys soccer, with Joe Regonlinski named Coach of the Year.

Superintendent Christine Godino reported that the district has joined a state Teacher Diversification Professional Learning Community to develop a more diverse educator workforce.
