Board of Selectmen launches senior property tax work-off pilot program

DocumentCenter · Meeting of November 17, 2022

Avon Board of Selectmen approves senior property tax work-off pilot program. The board approved Town Administrator Gregory S. Enos's proposal to establish a tax credit program for seniors age 65 and older working at $10 per hour for a maximum $1,000 abatement, capping the first year at 10 participants under Council on Aging Director Jane Carthas's oversight.

The program requires participating seniors to own residential property in Avon and aims to increase senior involvement in municipal government. The board also received recognition from the Massachusetts Councils on Aging designating Avon as a Dementia Friendly Community, swore in Deputy Police Chief Christopher Bartolotta, and approved a $1,000 donation for the Council on Aging's Thanksgiving event.
