School Committee approves operational changes as MCAS results flag pandemic learning gaps

DocumentCenter · Meeting of September 22, 2021

Avon School Committee approves operational measures as schools reopen. The committee unanimously passed six items including changes to the 2021-2022 school calendar, the AMHS Program of Studies, a Cross Country Sports Agreement with Holbrook Public Schools, and a Memorandum of Agreement with the Avon Education Association, on motions by Paul Chapman and Maria Piccirilli. Superintendent Christine Godino reported that spring 2021 MCAS results show significant knowledge gaps in mathematics and English Language Arts, with fewer students meeting grade-level expectations compared to pre-pandemic cohorts; the district will present detailed analysis at the next meeting.

Volleyball athletes are required to wear masks during play; all other sports operate normally.
