School Committee approves fundraisers, policies as year opens

Avon schools open for the new year; committee approves fundraisers and legal retainer. The School Committee unanimously approved five AMHS Boosters fundraisers, including a 50/50 raffle and Avon House of Pizza fundraiser, plus a retainer agreement with The Dupere Law Office. Superintendent Christine Godino reported that grades 1-6 began August 31 at Butler Elementary with pre-K and kindergarten following September 6, while grades 7-12 opened at AMHS.
Four enrollment policies were referred to the Policy Subcommittee for first reading: School Admissions, Educational Opportunities for Military Children, Educational Opportunities for Children in Foster Care, and Homeless Students: Enrollment Rights and Services.
