Finance Committee approves budget slate with school cuts and firefighters
DocumentCenter · Meeting of February 24, 2022
Avon Finance Committee endorses Board budget recommendations with school cuts and firefighter staffing. The committee unanimously approved the Board of Selectman's budget slate for town meeting, cutting the school budget from a requested 6 percent increase to 4.5 percent and trimming $150,000 from the proposal. It also approved funding for two additional full-time firefighters, with Derek Staffier abstaining from the Fire Department vote.
Selectman Eric Beckerman noted the Fire Department had previously removed $332,000 from its budget pending a departmental study, and that the Chief is seeking grants to help fund the new positions.
