AVON — Council on Aging advances Dementia Friendly Program, approves senior service initiatives. The Council moved forward with a monthly Dementia Friendly Program Action Team following Avon's formal designation as a Dementia Friendly community, with Council on Aging Director Jane Carthas receiving recognition at the Board of Selectmen meeting. The Senior Tax Write Off Program, approved by the Board of Selectmen, will provide $1,000 annual support to up to 10 seniors in the first year, with all participants subject to criminal background checks.
The Council is organizing holiday programming and coordinating a free smoke detector replacement program through the fire department's Sound The Alarm initiative.
