Board and Finance Committee discuss Fiscal 2023 budget proposals

Avon board and Finance Committee review Fiscal Year 2023 budgets in joint workshop. Fire Chief Robert Spurr requested $332,460 to hire four full-time firefighters for equal department staffing, but Finance Committee member Richard Jordan opposed the cost as excessive. Superintendent Christine Godino presented a $11.1 million school budget requesting $10.1 million in town funding, a 6 percent increase with two new positions: a shared English Language Learner teacher serving 70 students and an Adjustment Counselor.

Schools noted state-funded free lunches may end, requiring them to absorb costs if state support discontinued.
