Avon schools approve handbooks and sports agreements for 2022-2023

Avon School Committee approves 2022-2023 handbooks and adopts flexible meeting format. The committee unanimously approved handbook changes for Butler Elementary and Avon Middle High School, updated the High School's program of studies, and ratified cooperative football and cross country sports agreements with Holbrook Public Schools. Superintendent Christine Godino announced the state's new Competency Determination exam passing standards for classes 2026-2030, requiring scaled scores of 486 for ELA and mathematics and 470 for science and technology/engineering.
Updated COVID-19 guidance directs schools to focus mitigation on vulnerable and symptomatic individuals, eliminating universal mask requirements and surveillance testing. Staff return August 29, with students in grades 1-6 returning August 31.
