Avon School Committee approves 6th grade move to AMHS for 2023-2024. The Committee voted 3-2 to transition 6th grade students to Avon Middle High School beginning in 2023-2024, one year after rejecting an immediate 2022-2023 relocation. Paul Chapman, Maria Piccirilli, and Anne Hagberg voted in favor; Tracy Sheehan and Sharon Marble opposed.
The delayed move came after nine residents raised concerns about transition planning and administrative readiness during public comment. Chair Sheehan requested legal counsel review after the vote due to procedural confusion. The Committee unanimously approved a high school domestic trip for April vacation costing $1,575 per student and endorsed $150,000 in FY23 budget reductions.
