Avon approves $28.2 million FY2023 budget after contentious park renovation vote. Moderator Frank Staffier presided over the Annual Town Meeting with a quorum of 50 present, approving a $655,477 budget increase over the prior year without raising the tax rate. The meeting's pivotal moment came over a $575,000 DeMarco Park renovation that initially failed but passed after a two-thirds motion to reconsider (Yes 64, No 22).
Additional approvals included $1.1 million in capital spending for vehicles, building repairs, and infrastructure projects, along with bylaw amendments establishing three departmental revolving funds and raising the municipal procurement threshold from $4,000 to $10,000.
