Athletic Director cancels winter basketball due to pandemic safety

DocumentCenter · Meeting of December 9, 2020

Avon schools cancel winter basketball over pandemic safety concerns. The Athletic Director determined the state's COVID-19 sports guidelines, released November 20, were insufficient to safely conduct basketball due to loose pod separation rules and inadequate sanitation procedures. Superintendent Christine Godino reported the district's English Language Learner population has surged to 49 students requiring direct instruction and 28 needing monitoring, up from 27 requiring direct instruction last year.

The Committee unanimously approved amendments to Policy CBI.
