School Committee backs $670K budget with special education focus

DocumentCenter · Meeting of January 6, 2021

Avon School Committee approves $670K FY22 budget with special education expansion. The committee unanimously backed the spending plan, which increases longevity payments from $77,000 to $90,000 and expands special education instructional assistants from 108 to 138 positions, citing higher costs for high-need students and out-of-district tuition. The board also approved two warrant articles transferring $513,247.56 — $363,247.56 from the Butler School Parking Lot Stabilization Account and $150,000 from free cash — to fund a $1.1 million parking lot rehabilitation project.

The committee simultaneously approved the Student Opportunity Act plan, targeting early literacy intervention for 67 percent of English Language Learners, 75 percent of students with IEPs, and 45 percent of low-income students in grades K through 3.
