Committee reviews proposed livestock and poultry bylaw
By-Law Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2025
Avon's By-Law Committee reviews proposed livestock and poultry regulations with health officials. The committee met with Board of Health Agent Kathleen Washburn, Animal Control Officer Aaron Movsessian, and Board of Health Director Brittney Jayne-Holbrook to discuss Chapter 129. The proposed bylaw would require Board of Health permits for livestock, prohibit roosters except for educational or family projects, establish setbacks of 100 feet for stables and 15-30 feet for small shelters, require annual permit renewal, and set maximum penalties at $100 per violation.
The committee also plans to review kennel licensing, which is currently prohibited in residential areas under town zoning.
